Is Pinterest Picture Porn?

As of less than a week ago I started pinning, or pinteresting.  I'm not quite sure what it's called, because I'm still not quite sure how it all works.  In essence Pinterest is a social media site where you "pin" different pictures you like to your virtual pin boards.  You can grab pictures you see while surfing the web, upload your own pic, or re-pin someone else's.  You accumulate all of these pictures and organize them onto your different boards.  Travel, Beauty, Home, Fashion.  Whatever you like.  But unlike Facebook, you can re-pin pictures from other people you don't know.  It's no longer about your circle of people that you choose to friend, it's everyone connected to your Pinterest using Facebook, AND everyone on Pinterest.  Sounds a little confusing.  I thought the same thing at first.


I rationalized it by pure curiosity and the fact that maybe I could use them as inspiration boards for my writing, which has yet to happen.  But give it time.  It hasn't even been a week.  As I started to create my boards and collect more pictures, I wondered if anyone ever refers back to their old pins.  Yeah maybe if you are getting married or redecorating, which are allegedly the two main types of pinners out there, but I'm not doing either.  And I'm sure there's a lot of other pinner out there like me. So it's porn.  Pinterst is just picture porn.  You see something you like, you ogle over it for a few seconds, and then it's on to the next one.  The next picture centerfold that will catch your attention enough for you to re-pin it and have it as your own.  And if the picture got you so aroused that you wanted to see more, you can follow that pinner's board or all their boards, like your very own porn pic subscription.


Since I'm new to this game, I'm curious to know how many long time pinners refer back to their old pins?  And how often do you do that?  And when?  On those gloomy days when you need a pick me up quote that made you smile months ago.  Or an outfit inspiration that you remembered would look cute once the weather got warm.  If referring back to the dusty centerfolds from pins past is in fact happening, then I will continue to be a subscriber.  Because then Pinterest will not be just picture porn.
